Frequently Asked Questions

How much do piano lessons cost in Singapore?
Rates vary by qualification. Generally: Beginners ($40-$60/hr), Grade 1-5 ($50-$80/hr), Grade 6-8 ($70-$100/hr), Diploma ($100+/hr).
Are teachers certified?
Yes, we verify all teachers' credentials (ABRSM, Trinity, LCM, or Music Degrees) before their profiles go live.
Do you offer home lessons?
Yes! Most of our teachers travel to students' homes. Some also offer lessons at their own home studios.
Is registration free for teachers?
Yes, creating a profile is free. We may take a small commission on successful matches or offer premium listing options.
What can I expect during a trial lesson?
Think of the trial lesson as a "musical get-to-know-you." For younger students, we’ll play games to assess their natural rhythm and interest. For aspiring pianists, we’ll discuss your current repertoire, goals, and what you’re hoping to achieve (whether that’s ABRSM exam prep or playing for fun). It’s a low-pressure way to see if we’re a good fit for each other.
Do I need a piano at home to start lessons?
Yes, consistent practice is the "secret sauce" for improvement. If you don’t have an acoustic piano yet, a weighted-key digital piano is a great starting point for beginners. During our trial session, I’m happy to offer advice on what to look for if you’re planning to invest in an instrument.
What is the difference between a trial lesson and a regular lesson?
Both trial and regular lessons are paid, professional sessions. The trial lesson acts as an introductory assessment where we get to know each other, discuss your musical goals, and determine the best path forward. Regular lessons are then structured around a personalized, long-term curriculum, where we track progress, develop technique, and build a repertoire tailored specifically to your (or your child's) pace.
How often should a student practice?
I advocate for quality over quantity. Even 15 minutes of focused, daily practice is significantly more effective than one long, stressful session at the end of the week. My goal is to teach you how to practice so that your home sessions feel productive and rewarding, not like a chore.
Do you prepare students for ABRSM exams?
Absolutely. While I believe in a well-rounded musical education, I have extensive experience guiding students through the ABRSM syllabus. We will balance exam requirements with musicianship, sight-reading, and theory to ensure you aren't just passing exams, but truly growing as a pianist.
